If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking: Emily Dickinson
I like this poem because it is different from her other works; her other poems seem extremely depressing or sorrowful, but this one doesn't exactly have a flamboyant and uplifting tone, but it has a positive message. This poem also gives us a little insight into her personality which at first I thought was almost self destructive, but this shows that she has a caring and sensitive nature about her, and that she wishes to help those around her. Even though the message or substance of the poem is different from her others, it follows the similar style of writing, choice of wording, and length of the others. This poem also makes me think that she must have gone through some sort of major heart break or some very bad times to want to protect others so much.

Most of those who have studied her life feel that she several close friends who did not survive. She wrote of these people in letters to friends as well as in her poetry. It is sure that she was a bit odd given the way that she eventually isolated herself. Perhaps she felt the deaths of her friends too much to allow any such thing to happen again. Evidence says that she was, at one time, fascinated and repelled by death. She wrestled with it; she wrestled with religion which might have offered her the hope of eternity; she said that she kept the sabbath at home in one of her poems. All in all, she was certainly a talented writer and an interesting person.
